Dear Lake County Friends: Please Stop Asking Facebook for a Realtor

I love you.
I really do.

But every time I see this post…

“Looking for a Realtor in Lake County… GO!”

…an angel loses its lockbox.

Let’s talk about it.

First of All, I Get It.

You want recommendations.
You trust your friends.
You don’t want to make the wrong choice.

Totally fair.

But what actually happens when you post that?

  • 38 comments in 4 minutes

  • 17 Realtors tag themselves

  • 9 people say “She’s AMAZING!” with zero explanation

  • Your cousin from Arizona recommends someone in Wisconsin

  • And someone comments “Following!” like this is a Netflix series

It turns into the Wild West of real estate.

This Is Not a Favorite Pizza Poll

We are not voting on:

  • Best Friday night fish fry

  • Best Bloody Mary

  • Best spray tan

We are talking about:

  • Your equity

  • Your negotiation

  • Your timeline

  • Your stress level

  • Possibly your retirement

That deserves more than whoever’s best friend saw the post first.

The Comment Section Is a Popularity Contest

I’m going to say it gently:

The first 10 comments are usually just the agents who happened to be holding their phone at that exact moment.

Not necessarily:

  • The strongest negotiator

  • The one who studies Lake County market data weekly

  • The one who knows Lindenhurst inventory like it’s their child’s softball schedule

  • The one who will calmly walk you through inspection drama without spiraling

Fast fingers ≠ strong strategy.

Also… Your Friend’s Situation Is Not Your Situation

Your neighbor might have:

  • Sold in a hot multiple-offer situation

  • Bought new construction

  • Closed with zero hiccups

But maybe you’re:

  • Downsizing after 25 years

  • Selling after a divorce

  • Relocating out of state

  • Buying with FHA

  • Trying to time it around travel softball and basketball season 😉

Different scenarios require different skill sets.

You don’t need “a Realtor.”
You need the right fit for your season of life.

The Quiet Pros Are Usually… Quiet

Here’s something people don’t realize:

The really good agents?

Are often:

  • In showings

  • Negotiating contracts

  • Reviewing inspection reports

  • Calling lenders

  • Fixing problems before you even know they exist

They’re not always sitting in the Facebook comments waiting for the bat signal.

So What Should You Do Instead?

Have a conversation.

Ask:

  • What’s your strategy if my house doesn’t sell in 14 days?

  • How do you communicate?

  • What makes you different?

  • What happens when something goes sideways?

Interview 2–3 people.

It’s not rude.
It’s responsible.

You wouldn’t hire a babysitter from the first comment on a post.
Why would you choose someone to manage your largest asset that way?

And Before You Think I’m Being Salty

I promise I’m not. I genuinely want homeowners to make smart decisions.

If you live in Lake County, this matters.

The market here shifts neighborhood to neighborhood. 60046 is not the same as 60073Venetian Village is not the same as Millburn.

Strategy matters.

Pricing matters.

Experience matters.

And calm energy definitely matters.

Bottom Line: If you’re going to ask Facebook for anything…

Ask for:

  • A new mascara

  • A dinner spot

  • A good plumber

But when it comes to your home?

  • Have real conversations.

  • Ask better questions.

  • Choose wisely.

And if you ever want a no-pressure, “let’s just talk through it” conversation?

You know where to find me.
Probably at a softball field.
