Realtor | Jamie M Ross | United States Let's Have a Drink

I remember as a kid asking my friend to “crack my back”.. You know.. When you would cross your arms over your chest ( who knows why?) and they would give you a bear hug from behind and bounce you up and down and you would hear a pop! As an adult, I would be scared of breaking or pulling something and being bedridden for a week. Even though as kids we didn’t know what the we were doing, we knew that something happened and we felt better. If you ever feel compelled to “ crack your back” give Dr. Pamela Norley a call with Acupuncture Chiropractic.

Dr. Pamela Norley is a Licensed Chiropractic Physician who has been treating patients since 1994. When I sat down to talk with her, as soon as she started talking about her practice her whole face lit up. I could tell that not only was she passionate about what she does but that she truly cares for her patients. She spends the time to get to know her patients and wants you to be successful in your treatment so you can improve your quality of life. Chiropractic treatment is based on the concept that restricted movement in the spine or other joints in the body may lead to pain and reduced function. Spinal adjustment (manipulation) is one form of therapy chiropractors use to treat restricted mobility. The goal is to restore proper joint motion and, as a result, improve function and decrease pain.

What differentiates Dr. Norley from other chiropractors is her wholistic approach. Not only will she recommend a chiropractic treatment plan, but will discuss nutrition and acupuncture to compliment your treatment so that you find continued success well beyond your time with her.

If your like me, when you think of Acupuncture you think of someone laying on their stomach with a million needles in their back. Dr. Norley’s years of skill allow you to experience acupuncture in a safe, relaxing and painless environment. Each sterilized, single use acupuncture ‘needle’ (or ‘wire’) is the thickness of a strand of hair and comes in its own protective tube. She expertly positions the tube and with a little pressure relieves symptoms and pain from a wide variety of conditions. The reason this practice works is it restores the proper blood flow within your body so your body can heal itself. Ultimately this is the end goal. Instead of treating symptoms with medication, give your body the power to heal itself. She has had much success and many stories are posted on her website. A snippet from one:

While we decided to undergo all the various forms of treatment you can administer, I wasn’t confident they would work. Being a bit leery, I didn’t expect much. However, just this week the pain has resolved. My health has vastly improved by your persistence in trying each therapy until I plateaued, then a new approach was tried for even more improvement.

Unfortunately Dr Norley usually sees patients when they have exhausted all the resources of traditional medicine and aren’t seeing results. If you are experiencing pain, discomfort, numbness or any other symptom listed here, Dr Norley can help you find relief.

As a new patient, you will undergo a complete physical examination to determine the exact nature of your problem. The results of your examination will allow us to make recommendations regarding the best type of treatment needed for the quickest possible response. Contact her to set up a free consultation:

What do you think of when you think of an Attorney or Lawyer? I think of Leo Gets from Lethal Weapon or the TV character messing up my google search results… Jamie Ross from Law and Order!! A lot of times, attorneys are responsible for some pretty big things in your life: divorce, purchasing real estate, estate planning, or maybe you need a criminal lawyer?!?… Either way, you should have a trusted advisor in your corner!

A few months ago I was at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Anna’s Fire/Twisted Cow and managed to sit at the same table with Sarah Moore. I discovered that she is a Real Estate Attorney in the area and so I invited her out to coffee to get to know her better. I am always on the lookout for amazing people that can help me improve my client’s experience. As a Realtor, finding an attorney that you work well with is like finding your soulmate… I think Sarah might be my attorney soulmate.. Like me, she has a community mindset, and likes to volunteer and help the community whenever she can.

Sarah’s website says the following about her:

Before becoming an attorney, Sarah worked in business and higher education for nearly 15 years. She has always dedicated time to volunteering in her community, and is an active member of Gurnee Rotary. Since becoming an attorney she has also volunteered with the Lakes Jr. Eagles Basketball, Millburn Middle School PTO, Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center, Guardianship Help Desk in Lake County, the Center for Conflict Resolution in Cook County, and as a LiveHelp operator with Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO).

A graduate of the DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, she earned the Dean's Certificate of Service.

What was even more impressive is that she accomplished her law degree while working full time and raising her kids. Since she was a young girl, Sarah wanted to be a lawyer. Once she finished HS, she went on to get her associates degree and then life happened. As a young mom, she took some time away from school. 10 years later, she decided to go back to school, finished her bachelor's degree in 10 months and then her law degree. Fast forward to today, she currently resides in Lindenhurst with her husband and children.

Sarah and her team

Sarah has an office in Grayslake where she not only handles real estate transactions, but she does estate planning as well. Estate planning has a special place in Sarah’s heart because she has seen the devastation that comes without having a plan. According to AARP, more than half of Americans don’t have a plan. When you are grieving the loss of the loved one, emotions are high… Having a plan will prevent those left behind to settle your affairs in a peaceful way vs. fighting over who gets what or even worse, letting the state decide what will happen to your children!! If you don’t have a plan, consider giving Sarah a call. Some of the Estate Planning services that she provides are:

  • Wills

  • Trusts

  • Powers of Attorney for Healthcare

  • Powers of Attorney for Property

  • Living Wills

  • Estate Administration

What I enjoy most about Sarah is she is fun to be around and makes you feel comfortable around her. I have been able to get to know her better over the last couple months and she has crossed the bridge from trusted advisor to friend. Come meet us at the Spring Fest Expo on March 31. Sarah and I will have a booth together to answer any questions you might have as well as enter to win a picnic backpack!!

Whether it is to carve dinner for the entire family or to bring new life to your lawn mower, Sharpening by Dave is your local resource to make sure your blade is performing at its best.

I had lunch with Dave and his wife Amanda at Anna’s Fire (If you haven’t been there yet… I highly recommend it). Not only do Dave and Amanda service the Lindenhurst area, but they reside in Lindenhurst and are enjoying raising their two children, a 12 year old girl and a 7 year old boy, in the community. After speaking with them, you could tell they had a sense of pride for this community and enjoy supporting the local business within the area. I am so glad that I was able to talk to such a wonderful couple and bring their story and business to you.

When I got to Anna's Fire, Dave and Amanda brought me to their mobile office (a big red van) to show me a quick demonstration of how they sharpen. Although the name is Sharpening by Dave, Amanda knows her stuff! She jumped into the van and as Dave explained to me the importance of using cold water (this allows them to be kosher certified), she went to work on a knife that I brought with me. She was very meticulous in the way she moved the knife on the wet stone in order to obtain the precise angle in the metal. You could tell she has been doing this for a while and has mastered the art of sharpening.

While talking over lunch, I learned about how Sharpening by Dave got started with his Mother-in-Law’s idea. She was a hairdresser and suggested that since he was always tinkering with stuff, he should start a business. After thinking about it, Dave traveled to Richmond, VA to learn the art of sharpening from a father/son team. He spent a few days learning the tricks of the trade, but it took many years to perfect them. He explained how many factors go into the art of sharpening, such as if it is a western or eastern blade and the quality of the metal. Many of the gadgets you can purchase today to sharpen your knife, can’t tell the difference and will end up ruining your knife.

Once sharpened correctly, you can help keep it sharp by following these tips:

  • Never put your good knives in the dishwasher. Detergents are hard on them, and they could jiggle around, harming the edges. In addition the heat can change the temper of the forged knife blade.

  • To prevent discoloration or rust wipe knives clean immediately after use, especially after cutting acidic foods like tomatoes or citrus fruit.

  • Store your knives in a knife block or on a magnetic knife rack. When knives are thrown into a drawer, they will become dull more quickly, plus there's a good chance you'll cut yourself reaching in to retrieve one. If using a wooden knife block (with vertical slots), place the knife in upside-down so that the cutting edge is facing up and thus not resting on its own weight.

  • Always use a wood or polyethylene cutting board because these materials create less resistance to the blade’s edge than boards made from materials like ceramic or plastic.

  • Although it may be tempting at times, refrain from using your steak knives for prying, as a screwdriver, as a chisel, or for anything kitchen cutlery was not intended. It is also not recommended to use the back or side of your kitchen cutlery as hammering instruments unless it is specifically designed to handle that task. Doing so may cause the pins, springs, or handle to loosen or even break.

Sharpening by Dave is a mobile business, meaning they come to you. They service the Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin areas. They do require a min of 10 items in order to travel to your residence, but there are many other ways to get your knives sharpened if you have less. Not only are they at 22 different Farmer’s Markets throughout the year, but they do partner with several businesses that will allow you to drop off your cutlery:
