5 Tips for Selling Your Home During the Holidays

1. De-clutter Your Home

The number one thing you can do, regardless of the time of year, to help sell your home is declutter. Your home should have minimal items so that the rooms look more spacious. Clear the walls and the countertops. All the personal photos should be taken down. This is extremely important during the

holidays since you want to add decorations to the mix.

2. Don't Go Overboard

Think Pinterest perfect! We want your home looking like a magazine ad. Please make sure your decorations go with the colors of your home. Don't put up too many decorations. The entire snowman collection doesn't need to be put on display. You should also make sure the outdoor lights are simple. We aren't trying to win a contest. On the flip side... if all your neighbor's are all done up with holiday lights and you are not, you should think about putting some up. You don't want to look like the Grinch stopped by.

3. No Religious Artifacts.

Sorry. You need to remain neutral in this department. That is all.

4. Protect Your Presents

This time of year, a lot of money is spent on gifts for our family and friends. The "Bad Guys" know this. Whenever you sell, you need to be aware that there is always the possibility that undesirables will visit your home. I mean, you do have pictures of your home with everything in it posted for all to see! Be cautious and store your gifts (and valuables) at someone else's house or under lock and key to prevent any temptation to take anything.

5. The Christmas Tree

I know a lot of traditions revolve around the Christmas Tree and I certainly don't want to take that away, but if you tree is too big for the room, you may need to purchase a smaller one for this year. You also don't want the disrupt the flow of the room, this may mean you take a piece of furniture completely out of the room instead of squeezing it in. The tree should also be decorated to look like a display tree at the store. As mentioned before, no personal items should be in the house... this goes for handmade ornaments as well. Better yet, keep all your ornaments packed up and purchase a set of colored glass ornaments. Done!

The best thing you can do is enjoy your holidays. Try not to stress out. Let you Agent do what you hired them to do!
