One of the things I enjoy the most about living in Lindenhurst is all the lakes surrounding the area. I love that on a Sunday afternoon, I can pack up the kids and head to the beach for some FREE summer fun. I can take a 5 min drive to Lehman Park or ride my bike to Lake Linden. There are many other beaches as well, these are just my favorites.
Lake Linden is in the neighborhood. It is a small beach that offers a boat launch, sandy beach area, pavilion, and a sand volleyball court. It is quiet and most of the time empty. It is my oasis. It has a clearly marked swim area with buoy ropes (technical term) and also offers a small area to fish. The kids love that we can ride our bikes there and if they are super lucky, they may even catch the ice cream truck.
Lehman Park is a much busier beach as it is located in downtown Lake Villa and offers more amenities. The downfall for us is that the parking lot next to the beach is resident parking only. This just means we have to park a little bit down the road and walk.. no big deal, just makes my suit look nicer. The kids love the expansive beach and pier. Something to jump off of into the water is always nice. The one downfall is that there isn't a clearly marked swimming area, so I have no boundaries for the kids to remain in. The amenities at Lehman Park include flush toilets, a playground, huge beach, boat launch, picnic tables with shelter, horseshoe pits and BBQ's. It also has an expansive lawn that the provides grounds for their Summer Celebration and fireworks in the summer as well as Lake Villa Days in the fall.
A future goal of mine is to own one of the lake front homes in Lindenhurst or Lake Villa so I can enjoy the lake in my backyard. Many people do not know about all the Lakes hidden in our neighborhoods. It is truly a blessing to be able to live among them and provide my kids with wonderful summer memories at the local beach.
