“I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now.” – John Lennon
What do you believe? Is it possible that fairies live among us? These mythical creatures have been known to have magical powers and dwell on Earth near humans. Fairies have also been known to help people (some, called Pixies, are known for playing tricks on humans). I don’t know about you, but I need all the help I can get!
I know of a special opportunity for you to enchant your house with fairy magic. You will have the opportunity to gather with friends and enjoy an evening away from the stresses of life and create a beautiful, living fairy garden to house your own fairy! I cannot guarantee that your fairy will be helpful, but I can guarantee a fun time will be had.
On Thursday July 26, Mandy Mo Designs in conjunction with Lake County Barnwood will be hosting a BYOB Fairy Garden Party. You will walk away with your own fairy garden inside a custom made container from Lake County Barnwood. More Information
Recently I had the pleasure of having a drink with Amanda Gunn, the owner of Mandy Mo Designs. She is the mastermind behind the Fairy Gardens pictured throughout this article. I was curious as to how Mandy Mo Designs came to be, so I invited her to have a drink….
For starters, her drink of choice is a Moscow Mule… Yay!! One of my favorites! If she isn’t drinking a Mule, Red wine from Tamber Bey Vineyards is her go to. As we talked about our favorites, she explained that the only way she kept sane raising 7 children was the red wine… Wait! What?!? 7 children!?! At this point I knew this woman was a saint! She must have the magic of fairies within her! She is doing something right, while sitting at kitchen table, her college aged daughter walked in with several bags of groceries!! Hello! #momgoals
While sipping our Mules, I learned that Amanda moved around a lot as a child. Her father was in the Army and although she was born in Texas, she spent a lot of her childhood in Las Vegas. She has lived in Lindenhurst for the last 15 years and loves the community. The Real Estate Agent in me asked what her favorite part of her house was and she said without a doubt the view from the back deck. It was stunning. She also said she loves her home because this is where they became a family. Her favorite thing to do in Lindenhurst is walk through McDonald woods because it is so peaceful and she loves to be with nature.
Out of curiosity, I asked about the name of her business… Mandy Mo? I can see where Mandy came from, but what about Mo? Well, her maiden name is Mandy Moore. Yes, you read that right, Mandy Moore! Although she claims she is the original Mandy Moore, she far from resembles the This is Us actress. Amanda has blond curly hair, blue eyes and a look in her eye like she is up to something (she must be a pixie!). The name Mandy Mo was given to her by her Aunt and Uncle and although she hated it as a child, she has grown to embrace it. She even has the name on her license plate.
Mandy Mo Designs, as most businesses do, started as a hobby. Amanda enjoys nature and gardening as well as everything magical. She created a Fairy Garden for her deck and when her friend admired it and requested one for herself, Amanda was ecstatic to make another one. As more and more of her friends requested fairy garden’s the idea of turning this into a business started to grow. One day a friend offered to pay her and it solidified her idea.
As Amanda showed me her different designs, I was amazed at the intricate details. From the placement of each tiny flower to vines that wrapped antique lanterns turned fairy gazebos. There is obvious love placed into each garden. Amanda believes that everything is magical, it just depends on the way you look at it. She instills a little bit of her magic into each garden by setting an intention for the garden as she creates it. She also will use the power of crystals within her garden to enhance the intention. These are truly enchanted gardens custom made for their caretaker.
Mandy Mo designs offers a variety of ways to get your own Fairy Garden. As stated earlier, she offers Girls Night Out events where she will walk you through making your own garden as well as birthday parties or you can custom order a garden. Are you struggling with something that a little bit of fairy magic might remedy? She has made fairy gardens with a money tree and crystal known for it’s money attracting properties. I told her I wanted this garden in my house! Who couldn’t use a money tree? These Gardens would make great housewarming gifts or for any occasion that’s cause for celebration.
